Carpet installation is done thousands of times a day across the country, with many people installing carpet in their brand-new home while others are replacing their old and tattered previous carpets with something new and fresh. There is nothing quite like the feel of a smooth, bouncy, brand-new carpet. However, before your carpet installation can begin, you need to ensure that your home is ready for it. Carpet installation can be done quite quickly when your home is in good shape, so here are a few things you should know about before the carpet installers arrive.
Out With The Old In With The New
If you are getting a new carpet installed where your old one is worn down, then you need to empty out all the rooms where you are having this renovation performed. If you leave it to the professionals, it can take them extra time to get properly underway, and they can be slowed down by having to carry out everything that was in that room. It is much easier and helpful for them and you to preemptively clean everything out so that it is a blank canvas. Besides, you know where everything needs to be stored in the meantime, so it just makes sense for you to be the one to move it.
Keep Off It
While you can walk on the carpet once it has been installed almost immediately, you shouldn't be putting heavy items back on your new carpet immediately. This allows the carpet to rest and fully set itself before it starts to hold hundreds of kilograms of material without shifting all the time. If you have felt carpet shift beneath your feet before, chances are that was because someone didn't heed this advice and put very heavy items on the carpet before it was ready.
Keep Your Distance
Removal or installation of carpet is a messy business. Dust will fly into the air, as will hundreds of particles of plastic, fibres and even chips of wood from the floor. Staying out of the way of the professionals and using a mask if you need to go around the work area is always a good idea. Your lungs are very sensitive to material in the air, and it is just not worth the risk. Also, it can be a good idea to organise a professional cleaning of the carpet after it is set, just to make sure none of the dirt and muck that was created by the installation preemptively ages your carpet.
